Oracle7 plays Pokémon Ruby

A live run from a cartridge we own. There is no language model inside. Its goal is to beat the game: Oracle7 reads what that takes from the cart's own scripts and maps, works back to the step it can take now, and writes its reason beside it.

How it plays, in three minutes

Oracle7 holds one goal: beat the game. It reads what that takes from the cart's own scripts and maps, works backward to the step it can take now, and writes the reason down. These are highlights from one run, each clip at the game's real speed: turned back on the road west, the rival and the Pokédex, the bridge to Rustboro, a loss in the gym and the walk back, then Roxanne and the Stone Badge. Beside the screen is what Oracle7 wrote at that moment.

Reasons, newest first

The game runs at its normal speed, in real time, on our own machine. The cartridge was read with a GB Operator; the game file stays on that machine and is never served.
